This very successful project was started on the 16th of June 2012. Located at 39/15B Gopalnagar Road, Kolkata 700 027, the children of the locality are benefitting from the service and are eager to continue the same. There is feeling of belonging and the centre celebrates all national festivals and events with fervor.
All the children attending the centre are attending the local schools and the teachers of the centre are helping them with their homework. Apart from studying in the centre, the children are also taught Computers. WE have always believed in the holistic development of the children and believe that the children should also spend some time with extracurricular activities. The children of this centre and especially creative and are quick to organize programmes where they sing, dance in a group and sometimes in solo performances. To that effect, we have engaged a dance teacher, a drawing teacher. The children begin the class with meditation and yoga. The children are bright and cheerful in spite of the constraints of space. There is a waiting list of children wanting to join the programme and it is extremely difficult to refuse the newcomers. The eagerness in the eyes of the children is the driving force behind the success of Nava Chetna
The same premises is used for Sewing Classes in the afternoon for the ladies of the locality helping them to earn a living after they finish the course.
At the moment there are 42 children attending the coaching classes and there are 18 children attending the sewing classes.
When we started the project the centre was being sponsored by Nava Jeevan Bizi Berria in Spain. However, with the COVID situation creating economic havoc, the Spanish group withdrew their donations. Now the centre is beiong sponsored by the Friends of Nava Jeevan in Sweden.
